America the Beautiful at the Beach
While you are enjoying your day here at the beach in Destin at The Sea Oats Motel you may want to take a few minutes and reflect on the beauty of our nation.
The beauty of the mountains of Pikes Peak in Colorado so moved Katharine Lee Bates that she wrote the song “America the Beautiful” after visiting there.  The “purple mountain’s majesty” moved her so much that she wrote about it.  Truly, the beauty is phenomenal in many parts of our great country.
“O beautiful for spacious skies, For amber waves of grain, For purple mountain majesties, Above the fruited plain!”
The song was originally written as a poem and published in The Congregationalist in 1895. Â Bates was only 33 years old when she wrote the poem.
The Poem is Now on Display at the Top of Pike’s Peak Commemorating Bate’s Trip
She observed the top of Pike’s Peak looking out over the range of mountains was “a sea like expansion”.
As you enjoy the beaches of Destin be sure to appreciate the majestic beauty of the Gulf of Mexico and its vastness.
Reflect on the words of the song America the Beautiful when you gaze at the Gulf of Mexico.
“America! America! God shed His grace on thee, And crown thy good with brotherhood,
From sea to shining sea!”
God Bless America!
