We enjoy welcoming people to the beautiful white sand shores of our home, here at the Sea Oats Motel in sunny Destin, Florida.
There are so many amazing reasons to visit the pristine shoreline of the Emerald Coast and while investigating what makes our vacation paradise so interesting, we came across various collections of facts about Florida that were unique.
The awesome, friendly staff at the Sea Oats Motel have included a few of the more relevant ones to share with you here.
Florida Oranges: Florida produces about 70% of the Unites States’ oranges and roughly 40% of the world’s oranges.
Seven Mile Bridge: Florida is home to the nation’s longest bridge, Seven Mile Bridge, which spans the Florida Keys. Instead of building the spans over the open waters, they constructed it elsewhere and shipped the completed pieces to the Keys to be connected.
Oldest City in the US: Saint Augustine, on Florida’s east coast, is the oldest, continually inhabited city in the United States, settled by the Spanish in 1565. Also home to the oldest, continually ran hotel in the USA.
Miles of Pristine Coastline: Florida has the second longest coastline in the United States behind Alaska, which is number one.
Florida Bald Eagles: The second largest breeding population of bald eagles in the United States is in Florida. That comes as no surprise to those who live in Florida, as our state is a birdwatcher’s paradise.
Prettiest County in Florida with the most beautiful beaches~~Okaloosa County: Our beautiful county gets its name from Choctaw Indians, who are native to the area, meaning Black Water, which describes some of our lovely, “brackish” or a perfect mixture of fresh and salt, for our pristine estuaries and inland waterways which serve as nurseries for many of the fish you can’t wait to eat when visiting. Also, Destin and the unrivaled beaches of the Emerald Coast were recently named in the Top Ten Most Beautiful Places To Visit in the World, by Good Morning America.
