Sip-by-the-Surf Cocktails
Beach season is upon us and whether you’re near Venice, Daytona, Cape Cod or Easthampton, we think it’s a perfect opportunity to pack a little creativity in your cooler.
Sure, nobody’s going to balk at a beer under the afternoon sun, but we like to take a little more of a spirited approach to life, and so we’ve compiled this list of five great sip-by-the-surf cocktails.
Our only request? Leave the red Solo cup to Toby Keith and go stainless. Disposable is so 20th century.
~Leblon Coco Caipirinha Cocktail~
You put the lime in the coconut and drink ‘em both together.
INGREDIENTS
- Half a lime, cut into wedges
- 2 tsp. Superfine sugar
- 2 oz Leblon Cachaça
- Vita Coco 100% Pure Coconut Water
Muddle the lime and sugar in a shaker. Add the Leblon Cachaça, fill with ice and shake well. Pour, unstrained, into an old fashioned glass and top with Vita Coco. Garnish with a lime wheel.
~Shifting Sands Cocktail~
This tasty gin and citrus cocktail epitomizes Florida
INGREDIENTS
- 1.5 oz Beefeater 24 Gin
- 2 tsp Maraschino liqueur
- 1.5 oz Grapefruit juice
- .25 oz Fresh lemon juice
- Club soda
Add all the ingredients except the club soda to a shaker and fill with ice. Shake, and strain into a Collins glass filled with fresh ice. Top with club soda and garnish with a grapefruit wedge.
~Classic Mai Tai~
The Mai Tai is an original tiki classic that is neither neon-colored nor overly sweet.
INGREDIENTS
- .75 oz Fresh lime juice
- .25 oz Rock candy syrup (2 parts sugar, 1 part water)
- .25 oz Orgeat almond syrup
- .5 oz Orange Curaçao
- 2 oz Premium aged rum (Appleton Estate 12-Year-Old, El Dorado 12- Year-Old)
Add all the ingredients to a shaker and fill with crushed ice. Shake vigorously until the shaker is well-chilled and frosty on the outside. Pour (unstrained) into a double rocks glass. Garnish with half of a juiced lime and a fresh mint sprig.
~ Dark n’ Stormy~
Perfect for riding out one of our famous Florida thunderstorms.
INGREDIENTS
- 1.5 oz Gosling’s Black Seal Rum
- Stormy Ginger Beer or other ginger beer
Fill a tall glass with ice and add the rum. Top with ginger beer. Garnish with a lime wedge.
~ Virgin Ad Lib~
This herb and lemon concoction is a recipe you can share with the kids.
INGREDIENTS
- 4 Fresh cilantro sprigs
- 2.5 oz Water
- 1 oz Lemon juice
- 1 oz Simple syrup (one part sugar, one part water)
In a shaker, muddle the of cilantro. Add the remaining ingredients and fill with ice. Shake, and strain into a cocktail glass. (If you’re not a fan of cilantro, try this recipe with mint, basil or any soft herb.)
Along with these yummy cocktails, be sure to serve up some tasty bites like fresh peel n’ eat gulf shrimp, mini crab cakes topped with a tangy garlic aioli, or a simple to prepare mango salsa with fresh tortilla chips.
