Scuba Dive in Destin, FL

Diving In Destin

Have you ever picked a crab up from the bottom of the ocean? Watched giant fish and dolphins swim above you as you glided through the water?

Diving and snorkeling in Destin is an incredible activity you will never forget so why not try it here at one of the top dive destinations in the entire country?

Compared to the Atlantic, the waters of the Emerald Coast are clear which makes for perfect clarity when swimming around looking at all the underwater sites. In the Gulf you will find giant sea shells covering the bottom of the ocean floor with two varieties of lobsters crawling around.

The unique geographical location of Destin gives access to some incredible dive spots just minutes out from Destin East Pass. Out there you will discover a limestone carved reef covered in sponges and coral. It’s absolutely beautiful. If you don’t have an underwater camera, you’ll wish you had one on this trip.

In close proximity to the East Pass are the Destin Jetties. Due to it’s gorgeous surroundings and semi-private location, this is an extremely popular spot for the locals. With up to fifty feet of diving space, this spot is utilized for “beach diving”. Here you will see a colorful array of fish, dolphins and crabs. While you dive the kids can play along the rocks and catch some little hermit crabs. Where it is located there are virtually no waves so it’s a great spot for swimming and exploring.

Scuba Dive in The Gulf of MexicoIf you’re a beginner and need lessons then Scuba Tech is the perfect spot for that. They have a full staff of experienced divers you will teach you everything you need to know as well as getting certified.

There are a few others places you can visit to get certified or just touch up on your skills. You can visit Emerald Coast Scuba and Discovery Dive World.

Destin is fortunate to be located near one of the safest fresh water dive locations in the United States, Vortex Spring.

So, if you prefer to dive in fresh water you will have to check Vortex Springs out. It’s located about an hour from Destin but worth the drive for its natural beauty and breathtaking scenery.

The spring itself goes down sixty feet which you can see all the way to the bottom. You’ll be amazed at the things you’ll see. It’s definitely one of those “have to see it to believe it moments”. You can also camp, kayak and canoe. A great spot to bond with the family for sure!
