Respect The Sun!

For 4.6 billion years, the sun has been around.

From the moment we’re born, the sun is there for us. Is it possible we may take this star for granted?

Here are a few interesting facts about the sun:

  • The sun is pretty massive. With a diameter of 865,373 miles (over 1.3 million km), if a hollow sun were to be filled with spherical Earths, it could fit over 960,000 Earths (1.3 million if you were to squish them).
  • It takes 8 minutes for light to travel from the sun to us.
  • The surface of the sun is primarily made up of intense burning gasses (approx 75% hydrogen, 25% helium) so there is no surface to stand on. If we were to travel to the sun and be able to survive the intense heat, the gravity would crush and pull us into the core.
  • According to Dr. Louis Barbier, the Sun’s output is 3.8 x 1033 ergs/second, or about 5 x 1023 horsepower. How much is that? It is enough energy to melt a bridge of ice 2 miles wide, 1 mile thick, and extending the entire way from the Earth to the Sun, in one second.

We owe a lot to the sun!

Destin Beach SunsetSunny days are the usual here in Destin and we love sharing it with our guests! Basking in the sunshine can sometimes bring you out of a bad mood! What could make you happier than to get away from the cold, dreary damp days and soak up some warm sunshine on the beach?

We have a heated pool and we’re just steps away from the Gulf of Mexico! Soak in the rays but be sure to take care of your precious skin. The sun is hot and will burn your skin if not properly protected.
