World’s Luckiest Little Fishing Village
Because of its 1st class deep sea fishing, offshore sport fishing and our great bay fishing, Destin has been called the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village”.
Perhaps this is why Destin is home to one of the largest deep sea charter boat fleets in the U.S. with more than 90 state-of-the-art, Destin sport fishing and Back Bay boats, which fish anywhere from 1 to 100 miles out in the Gulf of Mexico to bring fun and excitement to anglers of all ages.
We have world class bottom fishing for red snappers, groupers, amberjacks as well as lots of inshore trolling with light tackle for king mackerels, dolphin fish, wahoos and tunas. These fish can also be seen when fishing from our beautiful 150 yard pier on Okaloosa Island or when fishing from a jetty along the channel.
If you’ve never tried offshore fishing for blue and white marlin or sailfish from the back of a luxury charter, it’s an experience you don’t want to miss. Our charter boat community is the best in the nation, with boats of every size and cost, to make your day on the water one you will talk about for years to come.
Head down to Destin Harbor to see the boats come in as the sun goes down and take a gander at what the captains are bringing in. That way, you can find a charter boat that has the type of fishing you’re looking for and you can inquire about rates and reservations face to face while the kids get an exciting sneak peek.
For fun with a little less cost or the need for special equipment, try out light-tackle Bay fishing, for redfish, sheepshead, speckled trout and flounders, when visiting the Emerald Coast’s countless riverways, bays and bayous.
If you are up for it, head out to Apalachicola Bay and dive for bay scallops amongst the shallows and sea grass, maybe spotting a Manatee or large Eagle Ray as you do. Dolphins, swimming in family pods, are also common sights along our coastal paradise.
Freshwater fishing abounds as well and you can go from ‘noodling’ a catfish, to reeling in a 8lb bass, to hauling in a mess of crawdaddies for a good old fashioned, low country boil.
Laidback and casual is the way we like it.
There is a plethora of shops and charter boats dedicated to enjoying the natural aquatic bounty so common to our area, so you will easily be able to find all the equipment, licences, and secret spots that will make your fishing trip a memorable one.
All this and much more is available in Destin, Florida including tons of shopping, dining and entertainment. When planning your next amazing vacation, be sure to book your stay at the Sea Oats Motel, located on Old Highway 98 facing endless stretches of sugar sand beaches. Away from all the noise and crowds, yet still close to all the unbelievable Emerald Coast attractions you came to see, or rooms have been designed to be your home away from home.
